THE BUENOS AIRES NEIGHBORSHIP
LEON, MEXICO
COMPETITION | SOCIAL HOUSING | FINALIST, 2018
The Buenos Aires Neighborship is a national competition organized by Instituto Municipal de Vivienda, León, Guanajuato. We were selected among the five finalists.
The proposal takes the concept of a neighbourship as its premise. The social and historical importance of neighborhoods in Latin America, especially in Mexico, opens the door to imagination. Today we know perfectly the spatiality of a neighbourship, however, it is not there where we return to the concept, it is from the structure as a scheme of coexistence between neighbors, where the areas of social interaction focus on the aforementioned, focusing buddles.
These spaces generated community unity, strengthened social fabrics, gave identity to its inhabitants around the physical space and created a sense of appropriation, all from said central patio; creator of all social activities such as traditional “posada navideña” (christmas parties), 15th bithday parties of Mexican women, community assemblies, dance parties, and what could never be missing, the collective exchange of our beautiful Mexico.
Thus, we understand the neighborhood as a community and urban register between the public-urban and individual-private space,
definitely an inevitable neighborhood appropriation.
